Accelerating volume rendering algorithms

Volume rendering is a processing demanding application, partially because of the large number of data to be visualized. However, several volume rendering algorithms, like isosurfacing and Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP) can be accelerated by using "Intelligent" approaches. After quickly introducing those algorithms, I will present the work I made during the last 5 years to optimize those algorithms. Especially, I will focus on Maximum Intensity Projection, where recent works have shown that the average complexity can be reduced from O(n3) to O(n2).
